Atlee Hammaker made his major league debut with the Kansas City Royals in 1981, going 1-3 in six starts. After that season, he was traded to the San Francisco Giants in a six-player dealer which sent Vida Blue to the Royals. He had a fine first season with the Giants in 1982 with a record of 12-8, which included 4 complete games with 1 shutout. He followed that in 1983 with his best season, a 10-9 record which included a league-leading 2.25 ERA. He was selected to the All-Stars that season. He went on to play 12 seasons in the Majors and won a total of 59 games. He now lives in Knoxville, TN, with his wife and 5 daughters.
